FluentU is an online education company that helps people learn languages with real-world videos, including movie trailers, music videos, news and inspiring talks delivered via web and mobile iOS and Android apps.

With a website that receives over 5m visitors a month, a mailing list with over 100k members and an iOS app that is usually among the top-grossing iOS education apps in the Apple App Store, FluentU is a profitable, stable company with a long-term focus, proudly self-funded and has worked remote/distributed since day one.

BUILDING LONG-TERM ANALYTICAL AGILITY

Rittman Analytics created a modern, modular and flexible data stack for FluentU over a number of development sprints, using an agile, kanban-style project approach that balanced long-term data modelling and infrastructure planning with the delivery of analytics feature requests from senior stakeholders.

Using software engineering best practices such as version control, component-based software/architecture, DRY code and automated testing, the Rittman Analytics team of analytics engineers transitioned to a support and mentoring role to assist with the hiring and onboarding of FluentU’s first data team hire.
